Say you’ve stayed up late for a couple of nights. You had some extra work to do, or an amazing movie was on TV, or you were having a good time with a friend, but after all those late nights you are so looking forward to getting some good sleep tonight. You get all comfy in bed and with a contented sigh you fall asleep…only to awaken 45 minutes later to the sound of a kid crying. And so it begins, be it nightmares or illness, you’re kids are keeping you up all night when you most wanted sleep. It always seems to happen that way, for me at least. And since I don’t get to take a nap, I find myself running on no sleep for 2 days, which is obviously not an ideal situation! Having four kids, however, has trained me to be prepared for these situations, so today I’m going to share my mommy survival kit, AKA, The Long Haul Kit, featuring my favorite little secret: 5-hour ENERGY® shots!
When I put together this kit, I tried to give myself a lot of options to not only help me wake up, but keep me awake, as well as upbeat, because being grouchy doesn’t do me any good, nor does it do any good for my kids.
1| Citrus or Minty Body Wash. One of the first things I do, whether it’s at 5am or 2pm, is take a shower with a citrus or minty body wash. The scents are extremely refreshing and known to help wake a person up, so I like to start a long day with a shower, because not only will I be fresh and clean, I’ll be awake, and that’s what I want.
2| Under-Eye Roller. No sleep can be killer for those poor eyes, and I hate seeing dark, puffy circles hanging out under them, making me look like a crazy insomniac. No one needs to know I’m getting little sleep, so I tackle those eyes with a great under-eye roller and my face starts looking refreshed in a hurry!
3| Hair Accessories. I keep an extra stash of bobby pins, headbands, and a sock for a sock bun on hand so I can throw my hair up and out of the way with the quickness, that way I look like I’m put-together instead of like a wild animal. Rwar.
4| 5-hour ENERGY® Shots. When I need a real energy boost, I down a 5-hour ENERGY® shot, because it’s a dietary supplement containing a blend of B-vitamins, amino acids, and essential nutrients, has only four calories, and has a caffeine content comparable to a cup of coffee! Plus it has no sugar, carbs, or herbal stimulants, so I’m not worried about having a sugar crash, which is perfect when you’re low on sleep.
5| Journal or Notebook. My brain stops computing on so little sleep, so I make sure to have a notebook around to jot down things I need to do or remember, because if I don’t, you can bet I won’t be doing it.
6| Misc. Happy Items. I like to throw in some fun scented candles, nail polish, and lip balms, because they make me happy. Whatever makes you happy should definitely be part of your kit too! Is it a perfect lipstick? Some amazing mascara? Maybe it’s a special shirt that looks amazing! Add it to your kit!
7| Motivational Printable. Sometimes it can be hard holding it together when you are so tired, and I understand that completely. So I made a motivational printable to help remind you that you’ve got this; you’re awesome. Hang it up in your bathroom, by your bed, or anywhere else you will see it when you need it the most.
