B is for: Bruise. Somehow, in October of 2012, Delaney injured her leg in the upper, slightly inner, thigh area. We don’t know how she did it, because neither of us could remember her being overly upset at a leg injury, but she developed this massive bruise that was easily the size of a baseball. After a couple of days a hard mass formed underneath the bruise that was as thick as my thumb (and I have fat thumbs yo), but when we took her to the hospital, no one could figure it out. As of today, she still has a bruise there
C is for: Charlotte. Charlotte is the best thing to ever happen to Delaney. Delaney loves that baby girl so much that she practically smothers Charli with her love, in the very literal sense! I can’t wait to see how their bond grows as they get older.
D is for: Delaney. Delaney’s first name didn’t come from anywhere of great significance, but it was a name that both Rudy and I could agree on! Her middle name, Virginia, is for my mother’s aunt and my husband’s second aunt I do believe.
E is for: Earnest. Laney is like a little cheerleader. No matter how small the accomplish, she is on top of you, telling you how awesome you are. Go Mommy Go!
F is for: Fearless. When her sisters are cowering under the shadow of a carnival ride, Delaney is ready to ride. When her sisters are poo-pooing a new food, Laney is chowing down. Laney does not succumb to peer pressure, she is the peer pressure.
G is for: Giggle. This kid has the.best.giggle.ever. And when it evolves into a full-on gut-laugh? Watch out! She’ll slay your heart with cuteness.
H is for: Hair. I never knew it was possible to do so much damage to hair in so little time. She’s cut her hair three times now, so it’s been about 9 months of her looking really really weird. It’s so obvious!
I is for: Insects. Keep those damn bugs away, because someone does not like them!
J is for: Jungle Gym. Monkey should be Laney’s name, because she loves to climb and swing and play on everything. The world is her jungle gym.
K is for: Kisses. This girl lives for kisses. She wants to give them and she wants to receive them. All day, every day. 24/7.
L is for: Lashes. Laney’s lashes are so long they make me jealous! Thick, black, long and totally beautiful.
M is for: Magna-Doodle. I’m pretty sure it’s her favorite toy, because she can spend hours just drawing on that thing. Faces, people, kitties, fishes, unicorns, birthday cakes…she’s a natural.
N is for: Night. Delaney is terrified of the dark. It all started after the fire upstairs, and we go through the same thing every night. We tell her it’s time for bed and she cries and says she’s scared of the dark, even though there is a night light in her room. Lately she’s even taken to crawling into our bed at night. Vivienne follows shortly thereafter, and the bed becomes ridiculously crowded!
P is for: Ponies. I really never realized how many ponies we had amassed until Delaney became completely obsessed with them. I think the count is at 14. We have big ones and small ones and ones with movable parts and hair to brush and carts to pull. We even have unicorn heads on sticks, which sounds a lot scarier than it really is.
Q is for: Queen. Delaney likes to wrap blankets, sheets, pillowcases, shirts, etc. and strut around the house declaring her sovereignty over all things. Especially the ponies.
R is for: Rabbit. Delaney really really really wants a rabbit. I don’t think a rabbit would survive against Mittens and especially Wyatt.
S is for: Scissors. In case you haven’t been following my blog or instagram for long, Delaney seems to have a fatal attraction to scissors. The fatal being in reference to her hair. Three times now. I’m going to have to mount the scissors to the ceiling.
T is for: Time. Lately we’ve been taking on the task of learning what time is, how to tell time, and how to understand the length of time. She’s pretty good at it!
U is for: Unicorn. Delaney loves to draw unicorns on the magna-doodle, except they look more like mutant Lochness Monsters because they have like six fins and a tail. But she says they are unicorns, so unicorns they are!
V is for: Vaccinated. She’s healthy and protected, like all children who can, should be.
W is for: Wild. Like an animal, yo.
X is for: Xylitol. We use xylitol in the girls’ water to help combat tooth decay. Oral health is awesome.
Y is for: Yah. Yeah, that’s how Delaney says “you” more often than not. This kid is slang-central. Her favorite phrase is “fer yah,” which she says every time she brings me something.
Z is for: Zombies. Delaney loves to watch Rudy and I kill zombies while playing Black Ops II. Dunno why she enjoys it, but she always starts giggling when we get hit by them.
