20 Second Knotted Updo

Many of you know that this is the first time in my life-since I was 5, anyway-I’ve had long hair, and as such, I’m new to the whole styling thing. I swear it took me a whole week to figure out how to braid my own hair, I’m that much of a n00b.

This 20 second knotted updo is among my fave new styles, because it is so easy, and so quick, and doesn’t require anything more than a hairpin or two and it looks great in that effortless, yet messy kind of way. I can wear this day in and day out without a problem, but I do recommend trying this on 2-day-old hair, because it slips right out after a fresh wash.

To start, part your hair into two halves with your fingers.

Next, cross one side over the other.

Pull the bottom half over the top and push it through the middle, making a tie, like you would do with a shoestring.

Continue to tie knots until you run out of hair to tie.

Take a hairpin and pin back the upper pieces of hair to hold the style in place.

Aaaaaaand, you’re done! 20 seconds knotted updo for the win!

Give it a try when you’re in a bind, you’ll love it!

Love this! It’s definitely one of those that looks like you spent time on your hair, but didn’t!

I do something similar except I take the ends and wrap them around the knots and pin so it ends up in more of a bun shape. I never thought to leave the ends out. I’m totally going to try this next time!
    Great post!

I love this – what a fun and easy idea! Curious – what type of hairpin do you use?

Oh that is awesome!! I am glad I am not the only one who is clueless with hair, I cannot for the life of me braid my own.. though you have learned and yea, I am still hopeless 😉 I might be able to pull this off though.

So easy. I think I actually pinned this last month on my teen’s board so she could check it out (I don’t have enough hair). It’s a great, easy look for summer.
