There are so many elements to a Good Night. Back in the day it used to be great friends, great drinks, great music and oh yes, great sex. Ha. That was a good night. But things change over the years (do I make myself sound old or what?), and sometimes too much of any of the above just ruins everything. Now, a good night includes kids going to bed without a fight, a living room that isn’t completely destroyed, and more than ten minutes of reading time without my eyes slamming shut. It’s the simple things now. Silence, mostly.
One of my rare pleasures during a good night is candles. I love the smells, the gentle, waving light, and the wee bit of warmth that comes from nicely lit candles. Only, I am not allowed to read with lit candles, after the incident at Mom’s during Christmas one year when the fireplace mantel started on fire with me reading a book right next to it. Oops.

After looking through my camera’s memory, I found a picture I had previously passed over, but decided it was time to give it a go. It’s not in focus or anything special, but there was just something about Afton and her face right in front of the lens as she tried to show me her toy that made me giggle just a little. When she’s been a punk all day long, it’s good to be reminded that she’s really one heck of a kid.
Stop touching me!
