Cooking for the 4th of July doesn’t have to be difficult or time-consuming, and with the amazing 8-piece fried chicken and chicken tenders from Walmart and a simple hot honey recipe with honey mustard dipping sauce, you can get dinner on the table in a hurry when you’re hanging with the fam for quality time together!

The Great Cooking Burnout

Even as quarantine winds down, people have been cooking next to non-stop. It’s great, as a food blogger, to be able to help provide you with quality recipes to make for your family, but I know you’re feeling the burnout as much as I am.

That’s why I hit up the Walmart Hot Deli and picked up some of their 8-piece fried chicken and chicken tenders so the girls and I could create a delicious dinner spread to help celebrate the 4th of July holiday!

Everything was so delicious, we even grabbed our sides and a rotisserie chicken from the Hot Deli. No one is going hungry in this house.

Since I was already making an essential trip to pick up important household items (safety first, my friends!), I knew it was the perfect time to grab everything for the perfect family 4th of July party. I was in and out in minutes and everything was super hot and fresh.

With so much deliciousness to be had, I knew the leftovers were going to be amazing as well. Have I mentioned how much winning is happening here right now?!

How To Utilize The Leftovers

After saucing up my chicken tenders with a delicious hot honey recipe, I cut apart the fried chicken, removed the skin from half, and bagged it to use in all sorts of fun ways. My favorite recipes to throw down with chicken include:

  • chicken tortilla soup
  • balsamic chicken salad sandwiches
  • 5-ingredient chicken enchiladas

I also love to toss the chicken tenders in a simple salad, or heat them up with the mashed potatoes and throw some corn in there? OH MY YES GIMME.

Hot Honey Chicken Tenders with Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce

This recipe is my favorite to use with those crispy chicken tenders from the Walmart Hot Deli. It’s ready in 5 minutes and full of flavor!

Simply heat up honey with a couple serrano peppers, then drizzle it over the chicken. Wham, bam, thank you ma’am!

While the honey heats up, whisk together the honey mustard in a bowl and seriously, live the no regrets life with this easy peasy recipe.

Ready to eat? I know I am!

Ingredients

For the Hot Honey Sauce

  • ½ cup honey
  • 2 serrano peppers halved lengthwise

For the Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce

  • 10 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 4 teaspoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice

Instructions

  • Add honey and serrano peppers, seeds facing up, in a small pot and heat over medium-low until lightly simmering. Let bubble for 5 minutes, then remove from heat and let cool for 5 minutes. Drizzle over cooked chicken tenders.
  • While honey sauce cooks, add honey mustard ingredients to a small bowl and whisk to combine. Serve alongside hot honey chicken tenders and enjoy!

Notes

You can increase the heat of the hot honey by letting the serrano peppers simmer longer, so place them cut side down and strain after heating. You can also swap the serrano peppers for a hotter variety such as habanero.
